CBC, I love you, but stop doing stupid things! Love him or hate him (and I often feel both emotions towards him), Don Cherry is a Canadian Icon and still belongs behind that desk in those crazy clothes. Kelly's not quite ready yet.

Just picked up my ticket to game 4. Happy days. Going with Elly, meeting her at 4:15 tomorrow. We're going to put red goop in our hair. And cheer lots and not sit down ever.
Today is a big day in the life of two of my favourite U of C boys: Graham and Kevin are writing their final final exams of their undergraduate careers as we speak. Ah, remember the days of 4th and 5th year (for me), wiling away summers on patios and at the drum. Making fun of Matt. Ok, making fun of Kevin. Ok, listening to Matt make fun of Kevin. While hot-box-Steve touched Inferious in ways we shan't speak of. Can't speak of. Ok, have drank away the memories of.... sigh. Congratulations you two kids, and I'll see you at the Den (sadly not the same Den where we met thanks to someone or other, a Den that is less, but is still a Den) this eve!

It pains me to admit it, but I've somewhat secretly and carefully been considering volunteering for one of the Conservative candidates in the upcoming election. There, I said it. I was going along with the notion that you can elect good people and not just play towards the parties all the time. Wrong. Not in Canada. It's about the parties. The people always, in one way or another, are forced to follow the party. Which means they are subject to the social whims of the leader. For me, that means the Conservatives continue to be a non-option. I hate to disagree with Joe Clark's advice, but when the facts about the people begin to come out, things get much clearer. To save the impatient the trouble of scrolling, here's where the decision was made:
He was joined in his criticisms by Conservative MP Rick Borotsik, who said the criticisms show the party lacks generosity, and that Mr. Clark's supporters are the type of conservatives the party needs to attract.
"I don't think anybody should refer to Mr. Clark as a tired old man or as a traitor. They're all wrong," said Mr. Borotsik, who, like Mr. Clark, was an opponent of the deal to merge the Tories and the Canadian Alliance. "You don't slag a man of integrity. That just doesn't make political sense."
Others were less charitable about Mr. Clark, saying he went too far.
A spokesman for former party leadership contestant Jim Prentice rejected Mr. Clark's offer to campaign for Mr. Prentice in his Calgary riding.
Mr. Clark hadn't yet made such an offer in person and "if and when he does, he will be told that it would be inappropriate because Jim does not share his assessment of the leader and the party," Jason Hatcher said yesterday.
A startling day of revelations it has been for me, as over my lunch hour news reads, I've found myself agreeing with John.

So it begins. Today is the first day of my new budget. Everything unpleasant always seems to start on Mondays... I will attempt to live on $50 a week for the summer. That will even include events like movies and surprise birthday parties from now on. Yup, $50 a week. It shouldn't actually be all that hard given the fact that I live in my parents' basement and the pantry is usually pretty well stocked, thus minimizing the need to spend money on food at work. Provided I create lunches ahead of time. Really, who wants to make something nutritious at 7:00 a.m. when they can easily buy kobe beef? I've decided to leave the costs of my cell phone and Flames playoff tickets out of the budget for now. But beer at the game is in, as are all other entertainment options. I've even made myself a nifty little budget spreadsheet with formulas and everything. It's very exciting. Ok, it's not exciting at all, but good on me for actually figuring out how to do it (it's been a number of years since I last tried to do anything in a spreadsheet). So if I manage to spend less than $50 in any week, that excess will "carry over" to the weeks when I plan to be away from Calgary this summer, hopefully allowing me to maintain my budget even while I'm on vacation. All this is in an attempt (another in a string of unsuccessful runs) to pay off some of my debt. So here goes. As long as certain friends stop guilting me about going home instead of going out, and certain people stop calling me boring, it should all work out this time.

Not exactly a litter you want to be part of...
Nice to be a Flames fan living in the west. I get to watch the game that counts, not that Toronto game... although, if I had to choose between the Toronto - Philadelphia series and the San Jose - Colorado one, I would be going for those Leafs. Won't tell you who I'd pick if I was choosing between the Toronto and Montreal ones though (that might start a rift). I think CBC needs another channel - one that can be dedicated to news, political and sports coverage year round. One that has reverse regional coverage during all important sporting events. And never, and I mean never, shows Pit Pony reruns.

Biggest salad ever...
Not that I'm on the Atkins diet, I just wanted a salad for lunch. Thinking it's going to last me till Wednesday. It had better last me until Wednesday with 21g of fat without the dressing! Yikes!
Don't know about that national average age for first time mothers. 27.7.... Can tell you right now that I'll be working to help bring that number up a few points.

One of the worst ideas ever to come out of Ontario!
Got my ticket. Could only get one ticket. But hey, I got mine.
Now, on to more immediate things: the countdown is over. Kill Bill Volume 2 is in theatres today. Who's up for a matinee tomorrow?

Ah, plant lady. How long it has been since I've seen you tending the foliage on this great campus...

Oh the beauty of the unseasonable Calgary weather.... It's 20 degrees out. Screw this 8 hours of work thing. I did 7.5, I'm going rollerblading!

My inner child is sixteen years old!
Life's not fair! It's never been fair, but while
adults might just accept that, I know
something's gotta change. And it's gonna
change, just as soon as I become an adult and
get some power of my own.
How Old is Your Inner Child?
brought to you by Quizilla
I think my inner child is angry!
And it really is a birthday day today. Happy Birthday to James Kusie too! He's now well established in his mid-twenties, also a very good place to be.
Two things today:
Happy Birthday Natasha! One of my great friends, I would like to welcome Tasha into the prime of her mid-twenties today. Tis a fabulous place to be, regardless of your current list of "achievements". Be thankful there are people in your life who love you, and that you have exciting changes coming this spring. That whole employment/future academic thing will work itself out one of these days. We've got lots of time for real jobs in a few years.
And what was the other one? hmmm. Must reflect. Finished CASA minutes, but that wasn't' it. Read about corruption in my country, racial hatred, election predictions, bisexual and lesbian smoking rates among American teens.... Ah yes. Now I remember: 10 days, baby! The countdown begins today! Interesting train of thought I had there...
Everyone except for Michelle Mccann sucks! She's the only one who signed when I emailed today. The CBC is cancelling Counterspin, one of the best programs it airs. Back in my pre-too-busy-for-tv days, this program was a mainstay of mine. Try to save it.
